Just outside of Jamestown you'll find this park dedicated to one of Tennessee's legends: Alvin York. Not only was he a war hero, he came back and used notoriety to help improve the lives of the people in his small mountain community.
It's a Great place to see. Was visiting my Dad & step Mom. Went there, they live in Pall Mall Tennessee..
As a former 82nd Airborne Paratrooper, it was more than a history lesson, it was like a Homecoming. To say that I thoroughly enjoyed it would be an understatement. You must see this and meet some of Sgt. York's decendents.
The park itself consists of a small museum, and several other history structures including a mill and York's house. The park is spread out over the community, and can be done as either a short driving tour or you can take a quick trail that connects the main grounds to the cemetery York (and several other local notables) is buried in. The house itself can only be entered on a guided tour, but they are held frequently with only a small fee.
Had a great time here. Definitely get the tour of the house.
If you are in the area at one of the other state parks or Big South Fork, it's worth taking an afternoon and riding up to Pall Mall and taking in this historic park.
This little park is definitely worth a visit. Incredible history in a beautiful setting. Ranger Wells was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. 10 stars
